Claim to Fame: The true Champion of New Zealand Harness racing and the first harness horse to win $1 million prize money. In 1963 he won the Inter- Dominion final off 24-yards, the NSW Summer Cup off 24 yards and the Lady Brooks Cup in Melbourne off 36 yards. He won two Auckland cups and one New Zealand Cup (2 miles) off a 54-yard handicap creating a world record time of 3.18 for 13 furlongs with a 2.02-mile rate. He also held the Australasian Mile rate record of 1.56. In 1964 he was brought by American Trainer Stanly Dancer for a staggering $100, 000. He raced in America and Canada for five years winning 37 races. He retired in September 1968 and returned home to New Zealand where he was honoured with the issue of a special postage stamp and his picture on biscuit tins. |
