Sunline started her career with seven wins from seven starts, this included a 3 length Group One win in the AJC Flight Stakes. Her biggest achievement though was her seven length winning margin in her second Cox Plate (2000) beating the cream of Australia's weight for age horses. In doing so Sunline:

  • Topped $6 million in prize money to become the first horse in the southern hemisphere to do so, taking her winnings to $A6,334,691 (=$NZ8,325,000)
  • Became the first horse to defend the Cox Plate title successfully since Kingston Town in 1982.
  • Equaled the record winning margin of 7 lengths set by Dulcify in 1979.
  • Became one of the leaders on the Emirates World Racing Series.

Not only did Sunline take on the best in Australasia in her 2000-01 season) but trekked across the world to Hong Kong where she won the Group One Hong Kong Mile by beating 13 opponents (including Fairy King Prawn) from six countries and then onto the United Arab Emirates where she ran a galent third behind Gin and Tonic (Fr) and Fairy King Prawn (HK) in the NZ$4.9million Group Two Dubai Duty Free.

By the end of her racing career Sunline had achieved 13 Group One victories, amassed over NZ$13.5 million in stakes money, making her the second highest earning female racehorse in the world behind Makybe Diva and won three Australian and four New Zealand Horse of the Year titles.

At the time of writing (Aug2006) Sunline now stands at stud having had a filly foal by Rock of Gibraltar and a colt foal by Zabeel.
