Claim to Fame: | Castletown performances in Group company were exceptional, winning 12 Group races, 6 of these Group 1s, a feat very few kiwi thoroughbreds have achieved. He was a specialist at 3200m, winning the Wellington Cup 3 times (1991,1992 and again in 1994). and the Auckland Cup. He won the Caulfield Stakes (2000m) in 1992 with an outstanding burst of speed at the finish. His other most notable win was in the Group 3 Kelt Capital Stakes in 1991 where he beat Cox Plate winner Surfers Paradise. He couldn't manage to win a 3200m race in Australia but had a 2nd and 3rd in the Sydney Cup and was 3rd again in the 1992 Melbourne Cup. Castletown finished his career with NZ $1,384,055 and Aus$807,170 in stakes money. |
